Twenty-nine years ago (July 4, 1990) the first Mountains-to-Sound march began. The march was organized by Jack Hornung and the IATC. IATC photographer Larry Hanson captured the event, and compiled a photo essay of the historic event.

We few, we happy few, we band of IATC hikers set out on that first Mountains to Sound March twenty-nine years ago, armed with nothing more than a vision of what the Greenway could be. That vision, sparked by the little-club-that-could, soon blossomed into the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, and now the vision is further validated by the designation of the Greenway as a “National Heritage Area,” the first NHA in the northwest.
