On Thursday, January 26th, the City of Bellevue’s Development Services department finally came out with their recommendation for the Isola development squeezed between the Coal Creek Natural Area and King County’s Regional Wildland Park on Lakemont Boulevard.

“Build it”, they said.

“Not so fast” says Sally Lawrence, Save Coal Creek’s steely leader. “This is not an appropriate place to develop”, added IATC co-founder David Kappler.

You can add your voice to Sally’s and David’s this coming Saturday, February 11th at our March & Rally to Save Coal Creek. A huge turnout will give our elected officials the political muscle to turn this from yet another development into a story of land conservation.

Although disappointing, the Development Service’s recommendation was not entirely unexpected. We believe that they have seriously misjudged the environmental impact of this development, and we are preparing a formal challenge to the recommendation. A public hearing is scheduled for March 2nd. Game on.

The rally, featuring King County Councilmember and former Bellevue Mayor Claudia Balducci, will be held at noon at Newcastle Beach Park near the mouth of Coal Creek on Lake Washington.

The first marchers will depart from the Red Town Trailhead at 9:00 AM and walk one of two routes to the site of the rally. Plenty of opportunities exist to join the march at various points along either route.
