Cougar Mountain Geology: Underfoot at Sky Country Trailhead

Dig into the geology near the Sky Country trailhead on Cougar Mountain by joining geologist Tom Doe for this 3-mile exploratory hike. Learn about and see examples of what is right underfoot, including the major rock types, glacial history, the clay pit, sinkholes, and the legacy of coal mining in the area (no actual digging will take place).

This will be an interactive hike with stops for observation, discussion and Q&A.

Registration required. No pets allowed.

Due to the popularity of this hike, only two registrants per party will be allowed.

Trails: Nike Horse Trail, Cave Hole Trail, Bypass Trail, Fred's Railroad Trail, Clay Pit Rd. Trail, Mineshaft Trail, Old Man's Trail
Distance ~3 miles
Duration: 3 hours
Elevation Gain: 250 ft.
