Get an action packed tour of the geology of Tiger Mountain in the seldom visited Grand Canyon of Fifteenmile Creek led by UW geologist, Dr. Will Hoover! On this 4-mile hike, you will learn about the uplift of the Issaquah Alps, local faults and how to track their activity, the ancient environment that produced the rocks of Tiger Mountain, and local coal mining and its environmental legacy. This is an interactive hike with hands-on observations, discussion and Q&A.
Registration required. No pets allowed.
Trailhead: Grand Canyon of Fifteenmile Creek at West Side Road and Tiger Mountain Road SE. NOTE: There is no parking at this trailhead or along Tiger Mountain Rd SE immediately adjacent to the trail. Hikers can park in the cul-de-sac on 258th Ave SE 0.1 miles east of the trail, further away along Tiger Mountain Rd SE or on other public side roads. Meet at the intersection of Tiger Mountain Rd SE and West Side Rd (at the gate).
