Teddy Bear Hike - Coal Creek Natural Area

Bring your little ones to explore nature on a beautiful but easy hike! Starting at Red Town Trailhead, we will cross over Lakemont Blvd to Coal Creek Natural Area where we will meander to the North Fork Waterfall and then follow the Coal Creek interpretive trail loop. This is a great route length for toddlers ages 2 and up! Younger ones in a pack are also more than welcome!

Stepping into Coal Creek Natural Area is like stepping into the past. Immersed under a treed canopy without a house in sight, the park echoes of the wildness that once covered this area. You can almost hear clanging coal cars as you wander through the second growth forests. Look closely and take time to discover evidence of the early coal industry along the trail. Coal Creek provides valuable fish and wildlife habitat, and the dense forest protects water quality and erosion.

Meet at the Red Town Trailhead parking lot on Lakemont Blvd SE.
