Hike Classifications

* Each hike has a number and letter designation. Numbers indicate hiking time and letters indicate elevation gain.

Hiking Time

Class 1: 2 hours
Class 2: 4 hours
Class 3: 6 hours
Class 4: 8 hours

These are approximate hiking times and do not include travel time to and from the trailhead.

Elevation Gain

A: Little or no elevation gain, up to 500 feet.

B: Some climbing, up to 1,200 feet, or some other difficulty.

C: More climbing, up to 2,500 feet, or some other difficulty.

D: Much climbing, over 2,500 feet of elevation gain.

This is an estimate of elevation gain.

Degree of Difficulty

EASY, no difficulty for average walker.

MODERATE, usually no difficulty for occasional hiker.

STRENUOUS, generally for experienced hikers in good physical condition.

VERY STRENUOUS, for experienced hikers in very good physical and aerobic condition.

These are estimated degrees of difficulty.

Hikers always must have proper footwear and clothing for the weather.
